For the first time, the works by leading names in national art such as Uro\u0161 Predi\u0107<\/strong> and Paja Jovanovi\u0107<\/strong>, the greats of European art El Greco<\/strong>, \u00c9lisabeth Louise Vig\u00e9e Le Brun<\/strong> and Marc Chagall<\/strong>, as well as contemporary artists Mladen Miljanovi\u0107<\/strong>, Vladan Jeremi\u0107<\/strong>, Rene Redle<\/strong>, Safet Zec<\/strong> and Taus Makhacheva<\/strong> will be presented in this year’s European Capital of Culture.
\nThe exhibition<\/strong> \u2018Art of Migration \u2013 Migration in Art<\/strong>\u2019, which will include works by the great names in painting, will be opened in the Gallery of Matica Srpska<\/strong> tomorrow, 18 February at 7 p.m.<\/strong>. The aim of the exhibition is not to offer certain views on the phenomenon of migration, but to select a space for social dialogue on this phenomenon through a selection of representative and interesting examples of artistic creation, confronting concepts such as fear, lack of empathy, (mis)understanding, contradictions and humanity.<\/p>\n

\n\u2018The exhibition really unites the incompatible, and I think it will be attractive for audiences of different perspectives \u2013 both for those who love new technologies and for those who love classical painting and contemporary art. The important thing is that we experience this exhibition as a platform for dialogue, for thinking about the phenomenon of migration, about our attitude towards migrants today and about the extent to which migration and population movements have actually changed Europe,\u2019 said Tijana Palkovljevi\u0107 Bugarski<\/strong>, the manager of the Gallery of Matica Srpska.<\/p>\n

The exhibition is part of the \u2018Migrations<\/strong>\u2019 programme arch within the \u2018Novi Sad \u2013 European Capital of Culture\u2019 project. The main topic<\/strong> of this programme arch is the positive impact of migration<\/strong>, through more than 300 cultural events<\/strong> and activities in 45 days<\/strong>, during February and March<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\n\u2018We decided on the topic of migration for several reasons. Every European Capital of Culture needs to rethink its identity, to know how to tell its story in the future, but in line with the European dimension. In that manner, for the first time, not only in Novi Sad, but also in Serbia, we have a unique approach to presenting the migrant identity of Novi Sad and Europe, through completely different artistic expressions. Thus, we wished to show that diversity is our strength,\u2019 said Nemanja Milenkovi\u0107<\/strong>, CEO of the \u2018Novi Sad \u2013 European Capital of Culture\u2019 Foundation.
\nWithin the accompanying programme of the exhibition, lectures and discussions will be implemented every Friday at 7 p.m., while on weekends there will be authorial and professional guided tours through the exhibition<\/strong>. In order to bring the topic of migration closer to children and young people, creative, drama and HearMe workshops will be implemented<\/strong>. Every other Tuesday, the audience can expect the GMS cinema at 7 p.m.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nThe author’s team of the exhibition consists of Danilo Vuksanovi\u0107, MA, Jelena Ognjanovi\u0107, MA and Luka Kuli\u0107<\/strong>. The exhibition is accompanied by the catalogue of the same name, as well as the publication \u2018(Po)gledi ka migracijama\u2019<\/strong>. Essays on the phenomenon of migrations are written by Alexei Ki\u0161juhas, PhD, Branko Be\u0161lin, PhD, Danilo Vuksanovi\u0107, MA, Sandra Debona, PhD, Jelena Ognjanovi\u0107, MA, Luka Kuli\u0107 and Vladimir Gvozden, PhD.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was created in collaboration with the State Gallery \u2018Tretyakov\u2019, The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, the National Gallery of Slovenia, the National Museum in Belgrade, the National Museum Pan\u010devo, as well as artists Taus Makhacheva, Safet Zec, Mladen Miljanovi\u0107, Vladan Jeremi\u0107 and Rene Redle.<\/p>\n

The exhibition was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia, the \u2018Novi Sad \u2013 European Capital of Culture\u2019 Foundation and the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities.<\/p>\n
