Provocative, rebellious, free, versatile, insolent \u2013 exhibitions, plays, debates, literature, poetry, music, as well as the women who create them are all that and much more. A woman is more than a variety of epithets. A woman is not a mould. A woman is not a stereotype.<\/p>\n

The multi-faceted personality of every woman, breaking down stereotypes and prejudices, through diverse artistic expression, will be presented in this year’s European Capital of Culture<\/strong>, in Novi Sad, as part of the new Heroines<\/strong><\/a> programme arch. In the next month, from modernised tradition to activism, Serbian Athens will show the development and influences of women’s emancipation throughout Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mileva Mari\u0107 Einstein<\/strong>, Milica Stojadinovi\u0107 Srpkinja<\/strong>, Marija Trandafil<\/strong>, Milica Tomi\u0107<\/strong>, Nade\u017eda Petrovi\u0107<\/strong> and Isidora \u017debeljan<\/strong> are just some of the heroines of Serbian and European creativity, who are the inspiration for today’s heroines \u2013 visual artists, actresses, playwrights, directors, journalists, musicians, activists, and many others.<\/p>\n

From the heroine on the accordion Ne\u017ea Torkar<\/strong>, who will premiere the work of the prominent Iranian composer Arshia Samsaminia entitled \u2018Matica\u2019<\/strong><\/a> on 18 May at the Synagogue, to the legendary heroine of the performance Katalin Ladik<\/strong>, who will promote her autobiography \u2018Can I Live on Your Face?\u2019<\/strong><\/a> on 20 May, and the premiere of the play \u2018Mileva\u2019<\/strong><\/a> on 26 May, whose author is one of the most influential regional directors, Anica Tomi\u0107<\/strong>. Incredible six domestic and regional playwrights joined their creative forces in this work \u2013 Tijana Grumi\u0107<\/strong>, Vedrana Klepica<\/strong>, Olga Dimitrijevi\u0107<\/strong>, Minja Bogavac<\/strong>, Vedrana Bo\u017einovi\u0107<\/strong> and Jelena Kova\u010di\u0107<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Fairy of Fru\u0161ka Gora (\u2018Vila\u2019)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Some of the most important European heroines of art will gather at the first festival called \u2018Vila\u2019<\/strong><\/a> (English fairy), in the heart of the oldest national park, Fru\u0161ka Gora, in Vrdnik, from 3 to 5 June. Gothic fairy Tarja Turunen<\/strong>, classical music fairies \u2013 violinist Simone Lamsma<\/strong> and violist Tabea Zimmermann<\/strong>, four fairies that make up the band Warpaint<\/strong>, as well as the regional fairies Natali Dizdar<\/strong> and Kaliopi<\/strong>, the fairy of Yugoslav theatre Anica Dobra<\/strong> and many others will be part of the unique experience this festival will offer in a magical ambience through various contents \u2013 plays, concerts, dance performances, poetry, film, gastronomy, rock camp for girls, as well as programmes for the youngest. Admission is free.<\/p>\n
