The cultural centre Mal\u00fd Berl\u00edn and the City of Trnava are launching an open call for architects, urban planners, and researchers.<\/strong>
The selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on a specific topic, get to know the local context, and propose a solution in direct collaboration with the City Architect of Trnava and their team. At the end of the residency, the participant will publicly present their ideas and work.<\/p>\n

The candidate may work in either a theoretical and\/or practical field. The programme is intended for participants with a clearly developed focus and approach who are capable of working independently.<\/p>\n

Short description of the residency topic:<\/strong><\/p>\n

The residency focuses on exploring new approaches to tackling the climate crisis in an urban context. Particular attention is given to the relationship between the city and nature \u2013 specifically, the potential of spontaneous vegetation and urbanised nature as components of biodiversity. Where does nature end and planned greenery begin? How can we \u201cprogramme\u201d nature to survive in the city? Where is the line between the natural and the designed? The topic raises many questions about green solutions and the boundaries of nature in relation to urban space.<\/p>\n

Residency duration:<\/strong>
September \u2013 November 2025 (3 months)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The open call is aimed at architects, urban planners, and researchers of diverse backgrounds, education levels, experiences, and interests. Previous international experience is not required but may be considered an advantage.<\/p>\n

The candidate will be selected based on their experience, motivation, and the relevance of past and current projects in their portfolio. A strong interest in the topic and the local context will also play an important role in the selection process.<\/p>\n

Who can apply:
\n<\/strong>– Individuals with experience or interest in the topic
\n– Young or mid-career architects, urban planners, or researchers (students are also welcome to apply)
\n– Fluency in English or Slovak
\n– Previous international experience is not required but is considered a plus<\/p>\n

What the residency offers:
\n<\/strong>–<\/strong> Monthly stipend of \u20ac1000 (total \u20ac3000)
\n– Travel reimbursement up to \u20ac500
\n– Free accommodation for the entire duration
\n– Networking with the local creative scene
\n– Opportunity to publicly present their work and ideas
\n– Full access to city departments, especially Territorial Development and Planning (Odbor \u00fazemn\u00e9ho rozvoja a koncepci\u00ed)<\/p>\n

\n– Weekly reports
\n– Final public presentation of the project<\/p>\n

Trnava is one of Slovakia\u2019s oldest and most historically significant cities. It is the administrative centre of both the Trnava District and the Trnava Self-Governing Region. With around 65,000 inhabitants<\/strong>, it is the seventh largest city in Slovakia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Located on the western Slovak lowland, only 50 km from Bratislava<\/strong>, Trnava covers an area of 71.5 km\u00b2.
