The \u201cAgeless\u201d Festival<\/em>, a unique artistic event in the region dedicated to exploring and raising awareness about discrimination against older people, will take place from October 16 to 18<\/strong> at the Novi Sad Theatre \u2013 \u00dajvid\u00e9ki Sz\u00ednh\u00e1z<\/strong>. Organized by the Novi Sad \u2013 European Capital of Culture Foundation<\/em>, in cooperation with the Dr\u017e\u2019 ne daj Troupe<\/em> and the Red Cross of Serbia<\/em>, the festival continues for the second consecutive year to use community theatre methods<\/strong> to expose and address the dangers of ageism<\/strong>, advocating for tangible social change. It further develops the processes that began during the European Capital of Culture project.<\/p>\n

The strength and importance of the festival lie in the fact that six performances<\/strong> by innovative and research-driven European theatres<\/strong> from Italy, Denmark, Poland, Portugal, and Serbia<\/strong> were created as a result of work in and with communities<\/em>.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is dementia<\/strong>\u2014a disease that primarily affects the elderly and represents one of the greatest global public health challenges. The festival also aims to advocate for the establishment of day care centres for people living with dementia<\/strong> and the development of respite services for their informal caregivers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The \u201cAgeless\u201d Festival<\/em> will open with the performance \u201cForget Me, Not!\u201d<\/strong> by the Cultural Centre Mladost Futog<\/em>, created by the authors Lazar Jovanov, Branka Baji\u0107, Dragan \u017divan\u010devi\u0107, Lazar Novkov, Ivan Pravdi\u0107, Sonja Le\u0161tar, Maja Grgi\u0107,<\/strong> and Du\u0161an Mamula<\/strong>. The performance was developed through a months-long theatre process with the community of Futog and Novi Sad.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The Italian theatre company Dispari Teatro<\/strong>, a production centre combining theatre for children and youth with community theatre<\/strong> and developing a \u201ctheatre of strong need and sensitivity,\u201d will present the performance \u201cInterwoven Rights\u201d<\/strong>, directed by Jimmy Basilotta<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The performance \u201cLoneliness is a Monster\u201d<\/strong>, directed by Simon Bayer-Pedersen<\/strong>, comes from the Nordisk Teaterlaboratorium<\/strong> in Holstebro, Denmark \u2014 a theatre laboratory founded nearly 60 years ago by Eugenio Barba<\/strong>, one of the most significant theatre creators of the 20th and 21st centuries. Nordisk has since become one of Europe\u2019s and the world\u2019s central hubs for theatrical research.<\/p>\n

The University of \u00c9vora<\/strong> from Portugal will present \u201cOld Women? Who Said That? We Are Still Here!\u201d<\/strong>, under the artistic direction and dramaturgy of Isabel Bazelga, Ana Maria Malta,<\/strong> and Anabela Monteiro<\/strong>. One of the oldest universities in Portugal, the University of \u00c9vora is known for its strong engagement with the community, including projects that use community theatre and participatory art<\/strong> as tools for social dialogue and inclusion.<\/p>\n

The Serbian troupe Dr\u017e\u2019 ne daj<\/strong>, known for its commitment to applied theatre<\/strong>, social engagement<\/strong>, and community work<\/strong>, will present \u201cWaiting for the Rain: Ageism in Six Scenes\u201d<\/strong>. Their artistic practice is based on innovative methodologies combining interactive theatre<\/strong>, postdramatic forms<\/strong>, and participatory methods<\/strong> to open important social questions and foster dialogue between generations and social groups.<\/p>\n

The \u201cAgeless\u201d Festival<\/em> will close with the performance \u201cBody\u201d<\/strong>, directed by Daniel Jacewicz<\/strong> and Dorota Porowska<\/strong>, by the Polish theatre Brama<\/strong>. This independent, intercultural theatre from Goleni\u00f3w has built a dynamic cultural hub, connecting the stage and the audience through theatre as a shared action, an artistic space, and a form of social engagement<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The \u201cAgeless\u201d Festival<\/em> was created as part of the international project Age Against the Machine<\/strong>.
The project is supported by the European Union through the CERV \u2013 Network of Towns programme<\/strong>, as well as by the City of Novi Sad<\/strong> and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
