The year of the European Capital of Culture begins with Doček, and the call for all interested volunteers to contribute to a unique celebration in Europe and achieve experience in preparation and implementation of big cultural events.
The Novi Sad voluntary service, launched as a joint project of the European Capital of Culture and European Youth Capital, offers main support in the preparation and implementation of numerous events, thus creating a unique opportunity for volunteers to be part of one of the most significant events in the city within the Doček on 31 December 2021 and 13 January 2022.
Volunteering positions for which the call is open include support for various types of programmes, including the opening ceremony of the European Capital of Culture, in activities such as providing information and sharing promotional materials, technical and production support, hosting, and monitoring compliance with epidemiological measures.

Doček, which was one of the reasons why Novi Sad recently received the award for Best European Trend Brand in the field of culture, positioned itself as the brand of Serbian Athens in the previous four years, celebrating its best values – interculturality, different religions and languages, two alphabets, two ways of calculating time and two celebrations of New Year’s Eve, through two forms of art – performing and visual.
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 13 January, within the ‘Zeniteum :: 2022’ performance directed by Dragan Živadinov, in front of Banovina, with various other programmes such as the ‘Time and the Cosmos’ exhibition by the artist Dušan Jovović, the opening ceremony in the Serbian National Theatre and numerous concerts. The opening ceremony will be preceded by the programme on 31 December inspired by the life and work of Nikola Tesla, which will comprise the ‘Tesla, Inventartist’ play directed by Nebojša Bradić, the procession from the Freedom bridge to the Suburbium of the Petrovaradin Fortress, where the opening of the outdoor multimedia festival – Tesla Light Gallery, as well as concerts on New Year’s Eve, 1 and 2 January.
