One of the biggest and most significant events this year in the world of classical music, ‘Beethoven Marathon’, will be held within the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme arch of the European Capital of Culture in Novi Sad. The Belgrade and Dortmund Philharmonic, together with the Slovak Philharmonic Choir and four soloists, Ana Maleša-Kutni, Mihaela Zelinger, Jang-woo Kim and Robert Bork, under the baton of Gabriel Feltz, will perform all nine Beethoven’s symphonies in a day in the City Concert Hall at the Petrovaradin Fortress on 26 June.

‘This is a concert, an achievement supposed to happen on 26 June. It is an achievement worthy of attention on the world level, and I think it will be something to remember and something that you really should not miss. On the other hand, the concert sets new standards, it has been planned for a long time in terms of production, programme and art, but it is important to have a new audience that is attending every concert, and this one as I believe, which really makes culture a way of life,’ said the CEO of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation, Nemanja Milenković.

The result of the great work and cooperation between the Belgrade and Dortmund Philharmonic had its premiere in Dortmund on Sunday, 19 June, and now, it will be part of one of the most significant projects within the title year of the European Capital of Culture in Novi Sad.

‘The Beethoven Marathon is a project that sets completely different standards and new records in the history of music performance. The orchestra is required to have top form and artistic excellence, which is why the Belgrade Philharmonic has raised the bar of its achievements even more. In addition to the grandiose presentation of Ludwig van Beethoven’s symphonic opus, it is unique in bringing together musicians of different nationalities, interpretations, and sensibility into a unique performance, asking colleagues to rely on each other in the Symphony N0. 9, which they perform together. After the spectacular success of the marathon, which had its first ‘race’ in Dortmund, we are really looking forward to its end in Novi Sad and to the grandiose ‘Ode to Joy’ under the clear skies in an ambience as perfect as the Petrovaradin Fortress.’ said the Director of the Belgrade Philharmonic, Darko Krstic.

The entry to the concert at the Petrovaradin Fortress is free, while tickets for the concerts in the City Concert Hall are sold for each of four concerts separately and are available at the Gigs Tix ticket offices.

On the occasion of 21 June, World Music Day, tickets for the first two concerts in the City Concert Hall are sold with a 50% discount, while tickets for the third and fourth concerts are sold at full price.

Changes to Traffic Regime at the Petrovaradin Fortress

Changes to the traffic regime from Preradovićeva Street (from Lovoturs) and on the way to the Petrovaradin Fortress will temporarily take place, on the occasion of performing the Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, within the ‘Beethoven Marathon’ at the Petrovaradin Fortress. The passage will be temporarily restricted by the existing one-way road from the upper plateau to Kamenički put, which will be turned into a two-way road controlled by the organisers.
