Novi Sad, the European Capital of Culture for 2022, will be succeeded by Timişoara, the third largest city in Romania, which will hold the title in 2023. Thanks to partnership relations and common European heritage, the City of Timişoara invites artists from Novi Sad to join the programme of the future European Capital of Culture.
Organizations and individuals can get involved in the Timişoara 2023 main programme by direct cooperation with local programme holders. They can participate in strengthening the capacity of the local ecosystem through the exchange of knowledge and resources through the ‘The Power Station’ programme or apply independently, with their own projects, to the ‘European Echoes’ open call. If the applying projects do not fit into the main programme concept, they can apply for the Associated Programme. Finally, artists can show their support for Timişoara as the Europan Capital of Culture through various promotional activities in their country.
The open call for participation in the official programme of the future European Capital of Culture lasts until the end of September this year, and interested parties can find details on how to get involved in the Timişoara 2023 programme, information on the conditions, as well as the application form here.
Novi Sad and Timişoara were originally supposed to hold the title of European Capital of Culture in 2021. Although the decision was changed due to the pandemic – Novi Sad is the current holder, while Timişoara will take the title in 2023 – the two cities achieved good cooperation that continues through this invitation to artists from Novi Sad to participate in the European Capital of Culture programme for the following year.
