As part of the international project FEMMINICITY – Network of Cities for Women’s Participation in Public Policy-Making, implemented with the support of the European Union’s CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) programme, another festival has taken place, this time in Poland. From 2 to 4 October, partners from Wrocław hosted theatre companies from four countries, including the Drž’ ne daj troupe from Novi Sad, which, together with the “Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture” Foundation, is one of the project partners. The visit was marked by a valuable exchange of experiences with project partners, and following the successful performance, the next stop is Novi Sad, where the FemminiCity Festival will take place from 22 to 24 October at the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad.
Broken Rib explores the connection between misogynistic stereotypes and femicide, examining the mechanisms that enable and perpetuate violence against women. The performance was created through a creative process that brought together an international artistic team and a local group of more than twenty women of different generations, educational backgrounds, and professions, who are also the performers in the production.
FemminiCity uses theatre as a tool for social engagement, with the aim of empowering women and encouraging their more active participation in society and decision-making processes. Through the format of community theatre, participants will address issues including gender equality, women’s political representation, economic and reproductive rights, sexual freedoms, and domestic violence. The project aims to connect local communities, art, and public policy, with a focus on the visibility, participation, and empowerment of women in contemporary society.
