Online lecture on the great Serbian scientist, Mileva Marić Einstein, who will be one of the key figures in the European Capital of Culture 2022 programme in Novi Sad, will be implemented on Friday, 14 May at 12 p.m. You can follow the lecture ‘Mileva Einstein Marić – Ray of Light of the 20th Century Physics’ via Facebook.
The lecture will be led by Violeta N. Nikolić, PhD in Physical Chemistry, as a research associate at the ‘Vinča’ Institute of Nuclear Sciences, while playwrights Minja Bogavac, Olga Dimitrijević, Tijana Grumić and Vedrana Božinović will participate after the lecture, moderated by Zagreb playwright and director Vedrana Klepica.
During the ‘Mileva Einstein Marić – Ray of Light of the 20th Century Physics’ lecture Mileva’s scientific contribution will be presented, mainly related to works dealing with the issue of photoelectric effect and special theory of relativity, which is the subject of numerous discussions and debates in today’s scientific circles. Several authors believe that the theory of the photoelectric effect, for which Mileva’s husband, Albert Einstein, received the Nobel Prize, represents her original scientific contribution.
In order to properly understand the case of Mileva Marić, it is necessary to take into account the position of women in science at that time. On the other hand, it cannot be understood without taking into account the broader sociological aspects of the Western and Balkan culture of the time. In light of that, Mileva’s personality will be analyzed, the reasons why she made certain decisions in her private life and career, as well as her scientific contribution.
The ‘Mileva Einstein Marić – Ray of Light of the 20th Century Physics’ lecture is being implemented as part of the preparatory activities for the new play about Mileva Marić, which will have its premiere in May 2022 within the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ programme.
The lecture is implemented by Sterijino Pozorje in cooperation with the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation, the National Theatre in Sombor and the Institute of Nuclear Sciences ‘Vinča’.
