Newly Rebuilt Radionica in District Is Starting to Operate through the Flags of the Future
15/04/2022

The new Radionica in the Creative District will start operating on 28 April in the European Capital of Culture. The former space for various craftsmen in the old wire factory is once again becoming a workshop, but this time around for visual art production.

The Radionica is ready to welcome back the excellent Novi Sad artists who created there, in spaces unfit for work, which are now representative studios.

‘We are very glad that this part of the city has finally undergone a transformation after several decades and that the idea of a cultural district has come to life. We believe that this process is going in the right direction, given that the identity of the location has been preserved, but that it has been adapted to new content and users. These days, we are moving into our former future studios, which are now far better and more suitable for the creative process,’ said the painter and sculptor Petar Mirković from the former so-called Chinese Quarter.

Instead of noisy machines and service craftsmen, the weaving artists of ‘Atelje 61’ will start working soon in Radionica, renewed thanks to the EU delegation in Serbia. A unique establishment in Europe, both in terms of its tapestry collection as well as the way and quality of work, will complete the vision of renewal and development of a hundred-year history of authentic industrial and craft heritage.

‘This facility will be synonymous with a space that will bring together the audiences and artists. It will be a place where educational workshops, forums, and film screenings can be organised, and where artists will have the opportunity to create, develop and exhibit their works in a specially adapted, attractive, and new space that will contribute to the development of Novi Sad cultural and artistic scene, and the development of the audience, which is certainly our common goal,’ stated the EU delegation in Serbia.

From a neglected and unsafe space to studios and exhibitions that Novi Sad and Serbia will be proud of, which all visitors will have the opportunity to see from 28 to 30 April during the ‘Flags of the Future’ programme. The ‘Flags of the Future’ programme is sponsored by IDEA, DDOR and A1 Srbija.

The first multimedia and interactive exhibition to open in Radionica will be ‘Drawings Travel Through Time’, including the works of children and youth starting from more than half a century ago, up until today, will open on 28 April at 7 p.m. Thus, this renovated space, along with Fabrika, Skladište, Menza, Biro, and Liman CS, will allow the youth to revive creativity with a variety of artistic creations through 70 events that will be held within the ‘Flags of the Future’ programme unit in the Creative District.
