The City of Oulu Announces a Call for Artists!

Oulu, the European Capital of Culture for 2026, invites professional visual artists from around the world to participate in the international competition for the ARToulu art area. This unique artistic area will bring life to seven riverside districts along the Oulujoki River, where installed art interventions will surprise and delight visitors in unexpected locations.

Who Can Apply?

The call is open to professional artists from all fields of visual arts, including performance and sound art. The works can be temporary, permanent, or ephemeral, with a focus on originality and creative integration into the urban environment. Mural art is not included in the call.

Application Deadline

November 29, 2024, at 4 p.m. local Finnish time (UTC/GMT+3).

Budget and Fees

The project aims to include between 10 and 20 artworks, with a total budget of EUR 100,000. This amount covers artist fees, material costs, travel, accommodation, and transportation expenses.

Selection Criteria

Submissions will be evaluated based on artistic quality, connection to the environment, technical feasibility, and safety. Priority will be given to works that bring elements of surprise and innovation to public spaces.

How to Apply?

The application must include:

· Contact information (full name, phone number, residential address, email address)

· Description of the proposed work and its technical aspects

· Sketches or illustrations of the work

· A biography (maximum 2 pages)

· A portfolio (maximum 5 pages)

· A detailed budget
