By presenting women’s culture, art and creativity and reassessing women’s historical heritage, we are striving to create a gender-equal society.
Heroines are dedicated to our most distinguished scientists, artists, patronesses, activists, and other women who changed the world. Mileva Marić Einstein, Marija Trandafil, Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja, and Milica Tomić are some of the important figures of national history and culture who inspired exhibitions, plays, concerts, and other events we can expect within this programme arch.
Women have played key roles in the history of Novi Sad and what this city is today. That is why the Heroines programme arch deals with women’s creativity, encouraging and promoting women’s culture, art, and inventiveness. This arch promotes women’s historical heritage for the sake of a more equal society.
Some of the heroines who will make Novi Sad the capital of women through various programmes are accordion heroine Neža Torkar, legendary heroine of performance Katalin Ladik, heroine-director Anica Tomić, gothic heroine Tarja Turunen, classical music heroines – violinist Simone Lamsma and violist Tabea Zimmermann, four heroines making up the band Warpaint, regional heroines Natali Dizdar and Kaliopi, the heroine of the Yugoslav theatre Anica Dobra, and many others.

MATICA
Woman as an inspiration and initiator in traditional art. Innovative presentation of cultural heritage, inspired by benefactress Marija Trandafil and other patrons.
The premiere of the play ‘Mileva’, whose author is one of the most influential regional directors, Anica Tomić, and in which as many as six local and regional playwrights joined their creative forces, reveals the character and work of scientist Mileva Marić Einstein.
A fairy-tale-like family gathering in nature dedicated to our Fruška Gora fairy, poet Milica Stojadinović Srpkinja.
MILICA
A multidisciplinary approach to women’s activism, inspired by the work of one of the first women to bring a spark of feminism to this area – Milica Tomić.
