Japanese City Invites Young Artists to the First Furniture Design Competition

The call for young designers from around the world was opened within the first annual competition ‘Kengo Kuma & Higashikawa’ KAGU Design Competition. Pre-registration lasts until 27 February, and the application period lasts from 25 until 31 March.

The competition was launched by the Japanese city Higashikawa that is famous for advanced furniture production with the focus on raising awareness of healthy environment and wooden furniture design since an early age, which is the main topic of the call for young artists – wooden chair design.

Kengo Kuma, a Japanese architect and a proponent of promoting the regional communities through architecture, with a strong interest in wide distribution of local resources, joined the whole idea of developing new way of live and educating young generations.

All applications must be in a digital format and sent on the following e-mail address: design@kagu-higashikawa.jp.

The announcement of the competition winner and award ceremony is scheduled for 26 June 2021.
