The international project „MOSAIC – Transnational Cultural Mosaic: Unifying Global Expressions“, whose main objectives were to strengthen cultural cooperation between Serbia and Hungary through the development of contemporary artistic practices, enhance the professional capacities of artists and cultural professionals, and encourage cross-border exchange of knowledge, experience, and innovative approaches in the field of culture, has officially come to an end with a closing conference held at the Svilara Cultural Station.
The closing conference provided an opportunity to present the project’s achievements, exchange experiences among partners and participants, and discuss the potential for developing new joint initiatives in the fields of culture and creative industries.
Throughout the project, the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation successfully implemented four artist residency programmes, bringing together around 30 artists from Serbia and Hungary to collaboratively create new artistic content using contemporary multimedia technologies and equipment. The residency programmes enabled intensive professional collaboration, the exchange of expertise, and the development of innovative artistic practices based on the intersection of art and digital technologies.
In addition to the residency programmes, the Foundation organised professional training sessions for artists aimed at enhancing their knowledge and skills in multimedia production, digital tools, and contemporary forms of artistic expression. Through these activities, participants acquired new competencies that they will be able to apply in their future work and in the development of cultural programmes. A particularly significant component of the project was the organisation of two transnational audiovisual performances, showcasing the results of the collaborative work of artists from both countries.
Throughout all project activities, special attention was given to strengthening the professional capacities of the cultural sector, fostering international cooperation, and creating new opportunities for artistic production and the presentation of contemporary art. The project facilitated the establishment of new professional contacts and partnerships between cultural stakeholders from Serbia and Hungary, laying the groundwork for continued cooperation beyond the project’s formal completion.
The project was implemented in partnership with the City of Novi Sad – City Administration for Culture as the lead partner, and the Bartók Béla Művészeti Kart Támogató Alapítvány from Szeged. It was carried out within the framework of the Interreg VI-A IPA Hungary–Serbia Programme, funded by the European Union through the Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) for the 2021–2027 programming period, with the aim of strengthening cross-border cooperation between Serbia and Hungary.
The MOSAIC project once again demonstrated the importance of international cooperation in the cultural sector and showed how collaborative work between artists and institutions can contribute to the creation of innovative cultural content, the strengthening of regional ties, and the promotion of contemporary art within a broader European context.
