New International Call for the BETA Circus European Project

The European BETA Circus has opened a call with the goal of selecting six participants from Serbia for a workshop to be held in Novi Sad. All interested can apply on BETA Circus website until 25 June by the end of the day. The project will be implemented from 22 – 26 September this year.

BETA Circus, as a cooperation project, seeks to develop a new European vision dedicated to capacity building for non-established European artists in the field of contemporary circus who are looking for innovative works, trends and expressions, with special focus on countries without academic circus education and in which the circus it is not recognised as contemporary art. The project thus represents an opportunity for the audience to experience new expressions and concepts during live performance.

Activities are based on trainings (workshops, sessions, and talks with mentors), performances open to the public, conferences and seminars, which professionals as target groups, and a final public exercise conducted by a group of international participants. Within this open call, six local participants from Serbia will be selected to attend the programme in Novi Sad in September.

During two years, the project will focus on new trends in the aesthetics of the contemporary circus, such as illusionism and new magic. Through all its activities, BETA Circus promotes international support for the dissemination of new contemporary circus trends, new artistic and research projects, raises the capacity of this type of art, supports transnational cooperation activities based on the mobility of artists, professionals and partner teams to discover different contexts, as well as new audiences and new artists.

BETA Circus will select a group of six participants of different profiles who represent non-established artists, including those motivated to change careers within the definition of non-established. Participants will be selected based on education and previous experience, as well as because of motivation to get involved in the project and learn new skills.

The final selection will be made up of diverse profiles of applicants, with special reference to the specifics of this programme, where availability to work on an international project is a mandatory prerequisite.

BETA Circus is co-financed by the European Union programme – Creative Europe, and is implemented by Bussola (Portugal), Teatro Necessario (Italy), Ludifico (Serbia) and Rigas Cirks (Latvia)
