The deadline has been extended for the public call launched by the ‘Novi Sad — European Capital of Culture’ Foundation for sculptural and architectural solutions for the appearance of the sculpture dedicated to Mitar Subotić Suba, the pioneer of electronic music in Serbia, with the aim of obtaining as many high-quality solutions as possible. The new deadline is 27 September, at 3 p.m. The call is open to experts in the field of architecture, applied or fine arts, whose task will be to creatively represent the work of this great artist. The new deadline to answer the questions is 19 September, and the results of the open call will be announced on 4 October 2022.
The sculpture will be placed right on the Suba’s Plateau, at the entrance to Liman Park, as a joint initiative of the Mitar Subotić Suba Foundation and the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation. The sculpture will complement the art space on Suba’s Plateau, where the first open-air gallery in Novi Sad has been set up this year, thus starting a new practice of exhibiting artistic flags.
The sculpture will be installed as part of the Other? Europe programme arch, when other programmes will be dedicated to Suba, such as the exhibition ‘Suba Room’, a remake of his composition and a musical installation in co-production with Goran Vejvoda: The Dreambird, and a concert by the popular Brazilian singer Céu, who won three Latin Grammys and was nominated for a Grammy in the category of world music.
Mitar Subotić Suba was one of the biggest and most recognised music producers and a pioneer of electronic music in the former Yugoslavia, but also in Latin America. He composed music for films, theatre plays, ballet, television shows, advertisements, and opening and closing sequences for Radio Novi Sad. He is the recipient of the International Fund for Promotion of Culture award from UNESCO. He collaborated with many notable names, such as Milan Mladenović, Marina Perazić, Massimo Savić, Haustor and La Strada groups, Bebel Gilberto, João Donato, and others.
