23/09/2021

During the next year, 2022, three European cities will hold the prestigious title of European Capital of Culture Esch-sur-Alzette (Luxembourg), Kaunas (Lithuania) and Novi Sad (Serbia). On that occasion, yesterday in Kaunas, at an international press conference, the programme concepts of all three cultural capitals were presented.

Simonas Kairys (Minister of Culture, Lithuania), Visvaldas Matijošaitis (Mayor of Kaunas), Valerijus Makūnas (Mayor of Kaunas District), Virginija Vitkienė (Director of Kaunas 2022), Nancy Brown (Director of Esch 2022), Dany Lucas (production manager Esch 2022), Francoise Poos (programme director Esch 2022), and Nemanja Milenković (CEO of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ project) spoke at the international press conference.

In the first part of the conference, the Kaunas 2022 Programme Book was presented, after which Esch and Novi Sad presented their programme concept, considering that both cities will present the Program Book in October.

Nemanja Milenković presented the programme narrative of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ project, which comes out from the ‘4 New Bridges’ slogan, and represents the idea of building new bridges of cooperation and exchange between artists and organizations from Novi Sad and Serbia with the European cultural scene.

Furthermore, the international media were introduced to the legacy programme arches, as well as to the flagship programmes in the title year. Novi Sad was also presented by a young violinist Lana Zorjan, whose recording of the performance from last year’s reception was presented at the conference.
