FEMMINICITY: The Performance „Broken Rib“ presented in Timișoara
01/06/2026

The performance Broken Rib was presented as part of a festival in Timișoara, within the international project FEMMINICITY – Network of Cities for Women’s Participation in Public Policy Making, supported by the European Union’s CERV (Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values) programme.

The project is led by Hungarian State Theatre „Csiky Gergely” in partnership with Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation and the theatre collective Drž ne daj, as well as partner organisations from Montpellier, Wrocław and Maribor.

The performance explores the relationship between misogynistic stereotypes and femicide, examining the social mechanisms that enable and sustain violence against women. It was developed through a collaborative creative process involving an international artistic team and a local group of more than twenty women of different generations, educational backgrounds and professions, who also perform in the production.

Combining elements of stand-up, ritual, documentary theatre and collective testimony, Broken Rib raises an important question: to what extent are we, as a society, complicit in the violence experienced by women? Rather than offering simple answers, the performance creates space for dialogue, self-reflection and a deeper understanding of the shared responsibility for building a more equal society.
