The Novi Sad Jazz Festival will take place from July 3 to 5, featuring more than 20 performers in the heart of Novi Sad.
Now in its 28th edition, the festival is introducing a completely new concept, developed through the collaboration and organizational partnership between the Cultural Centre of Novi Sad and the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture Foundation, with the support of the Novi Sad Tourist Organization.
The Novi Sad Jazz Festival nurtures excellence in jazz culture while reflecting the authentic rhythm of urban life, establishing itself as one of the most important carriers of Novi Sad’s cultural identity.
We are creating a truly Novi Sad jazz experience — in the heart of the city and in the hearts of its citizens.
How Did Jazz Become Part of Novi Sad?
A century ago, with the industrial development of the District, Novi Sad began its transformation into a modern city. Its urbanization was accompanied by jazz — a new musical language that, soon after emerging in the United States, found its way to Novi Sad and to the Americana Club, where local audiences had their first opportunity to hear the sounds of this genre.
In this way, jazz helped shape Novi Sad into the city it is today: a cultural centre, urban and cosmopolitan, connected to the wider world.
In 1999, the Novi Sad Jazz Festival continued the city’s rich jazz festival tradition established by the Days of Jazz in Novi Sad (1979–1988). This year, we celebrate its 28th anniversary, keeping the rhythm alive!
Today, the Novi Sad Jazz Festival is much more than a concert programme.
The festival’s new concept brings jazz into the heart of the city — to new locations, public spaces, and among the people. Throughout the summer, the festival connects music, art, and the Novi Sad way of life through concerts, talks, film screenings, exhibitions, workshops, and community gatherings.
In this way, jazz becomes an experience of the city itself.

In the Heart of the City
Catholic Porta, Laza Telečki Street, Njegoševa Street, the KCNS Summer Cinema, the Fine Arts Salon, and other urban spaces across Novi Sad.
The Novi Sad Jazz Festival follows the rhythm of the city and its people. This is a city where life is lived LAGÁNO*.
LAGÁNO is more than a slogan — it is the rhythm of Novi Sad. It does not mean slow; it means relaxed, free from pressure, guided by an innate sense of balance and style. The word captures the essence of what it means to be “from Novi Sad” — a way of life that flows calmly but never stagnates; that recognizes quality without becoming elitist; that respects tradition without standing still.
That is precisely why LAGÁNO perfectly reflects the spirit of jazz. Like Novi Sad itself, jazz resists rigid definitions. It improvises, moves beyond genre boundaries, and seeks space to breathe. The emphasis on the second syllable — LAGÁNO rather than làgano — symbolically shifts the accent, just as jazz shifts boundaries. This local pronunciation steps outside the standard language in much the same way that authentic jazz steps outside convention in order to remain true to itself.
Within that subtle shift lies the essence of both Novi Sad and jazz: openness to the new, room for feeling, improvisation, and style.
*LAGÁNO (Serbian, local Novi Sad pronunciation) — literally “easy” or “slowly,” but in Novi Sad it carries a broader cultural meaning: a relaxed, unhurried approach to life characterized by balance, openness, good taste, and an appreciation of quality over haste.

New identity
The festival logo will feature the Cyrillic letter Џ, along with the festival name written in both Cyrillic and English. Why Џ?
The letter “Џ” is a visually and sonically striking symbol unique to the Serbian Cyrillic alphabet. With its strong, distinctive form, it carries significant graphic potential. Precisely because of its singular position within the script, it is used as a visual motif that subtly reflects the character of jazz music: freedom of form, individuality, and rhythmic complexity.
Like jazz itself, “Џ” steps outside conventional frameworks. It embodies the spirit of a city that is urban, authentic, and slightly unconventional — Novi Sad, a city that is a gentleman in manners, a jack of all trades in society, and a giant in heart.

The color purple has been chosen as the festival’s visual accent because it feels both powerful and understated at the same time. Its depth, dynamism, and subtle unconventionality naturally align with the spirit of jazz — a music of freedom, expression, and an atmosphere that lingers long after the final note.
Interestingly, when viewed from a bird’s-eye perspective, the locations hosting the Novi Sad Jazz Festival form the Cyrillic letter Џ, weaving the city itself into the rhythm and shape of jazz — and everything the Novi Sad Jazz Festival represents.
