A Unique Pavilion Dedicated to Literature in Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture

The most popular regional writers such as Rumena Bužarovska, Miljenko Jergović, Kristian Novak, Milica Vučković, Darko Cvijetić, Damir Karakaš and some of the greatest names on the world music scene including Original Enigma Voices, Gipsy BalKan Orchestra, Antropoceno – the project by the members of the famous musical group Gotan Project, Japanese guitarist, singer-songwriter and producer Miyavi, Bilja Krstić & Bistrik Orchestra, Bogdan Ranković and the Novi Sad musical group ‘Ethnoforia’, featured by the famous Japanese singer and choreographer, recipient of the Order of the Arts and the Letters in the grade of a Knight, come to Novi Sad, European Capital of Culture, to the unique multimedia pavilion dedicated to literature ‘The Migration of Souls’ at the Novi Sad Fair from 3 until 13 March.

In addition to literature and music, the Migration of Souls will deal with a topic of the positive effect of migrations and will include plays ‘Fugitives’ directed by Dušan Mamula and ‘We All Came from Somewhere, Some a Little Earlier’ directer by Italian director Andrea Elodie Moretti, performed by the ‘Šmiranti’ Association.
‘We continue to surprise, provoke and reassess the topic of migration. If we did it by engaging extraordinary performers of classical music, through exhibitions by some of the greatest names of the European fine art, photography, new media art and other genres of art, then a unique literature pavilion in this part of Europe would be a new artistic expression and a space of unexpected experience in culture. Literature is a sparkle that will help us ennoble human souls through highest artistic achievement through concerts, plays, dance and performances in the Migrations programme arch,’ said Nemanja Milenković.

The main event of the ‘Migrations’ programme arch will be the exhibition subtitled ‘The Migration of Souls – Novi Sad in Books’ organised by the City Library, which will take place in the Aula of the Novi Sad Fair and is connected with the traditional Book Fair stressing the importance of the oldest fair in Serbia, which will become the literature centre. Milena Marković, the winner of this year’s NIN award, Ante Tomić and Slobodan Vladušić will present themselves at the Book Fair.

‘This is something that hasn’t been seen in the last decade at the Novi Sad Fair, and we believe that the programme organised in this way, will be a true novelty for the cultural scene of Novi Sad and the Republic of Serbia. Namely, in the period from 3 until 13 March, visitors will have a chance to enjoy 12 hours of a quality programme at the multimedia pavilion 10,000 square metres and with more than 180 exhibitors at the international book fairs, exhibitions and the Education Fair’, stressed Boris Nadlukač, Executive Manager in Commercial department.

The ‘Migration of Souls’ programme arch will be opened by Miyavi, the goodwill ambassador of the UNHCR and the Japanese singer-songwriter, on 3 March. He will perform in Serbia for the first time, with the support from the EU-Japan Fest and Japan Committee, while one of the most famous German bands and winners of more than a hundred platinum awards, Original Enigma Voices, will close the unique pavilion together with Camerata Novi Sad on 13 March.

‘This will be a great show with the string orchestra so visit the Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture on 13 march and enjoy Enigma classics,’ said Andru Donalds from the Original Enigma Voices band.

The ‘Migration of Souls’ programme will comprise the Carnival of Ritual Processions that will include children’s masquerades, concerts and panel discussions. The Moroccan band Chalaban, the stage reading by one of the most renowned Bosnian writers Muharem Bazdulj of the Mihael Martens’ bookIn the Fire of the Worlds: Ivo Andrić, A European Life’, and the promotion of the book ‘Encyclopaedia of the Serbian National Theatre’ will feature the programme. The ‘Karlovačke Zore’ Roma Association will present a digital catalogue with folk costumes of Roma people in Vojvodina.

Tickets are available for sale.

The tickets for all concerts within the ‘Migration of Souls’ programme arch are available for sale. Anyone interested can purchase the tickets at Gigs Tix tickets offices or online, via the gigstix.com website.
The tickets will also be available for purchase at the Novi Sad Fair on the date of the concert.
Organisers kindly ask all visitors to adhere to all preventive measures imposed due to the current pandemic situation, in order to maintain health. The masks will be provided at the entrance.
