The Museum and Science Centre of Oulu, Finland, invites audiovisual artists, as well as professionals and students in programming and game design, to submit proposals for content that will become part of the new Experience Space VISIO, scheduled to open in October 2026.
About the Project
Experience Space VISIO, opening within the new Tiima Museum and Science Centre, will be an immersive environment presenting content from science, art, and cultural history using state-of-the-art presentation technology.
VISIO’s technology is based on the Deep Space concept developed by Ars Electronica, and upon its opening, it will become the first venue of its kind in Finland and Northern Europe. Through this project, Oulu responds to the global trend of rapidly expanding immersive environments.
Aim of the Open Call
The goal of the open call is to select 1–3 audiovisual works to be presented as part of the opening program of the VISIO space.
During Tiima’s operating hours, VISIO will host short programs (up to 30 minutes) composed of several separate segments.
This call focuses on the opening segments—content displayed as visitors enter the space, designed to set the mood and build anticipation for the main program.
Theme of the Call: Northern Identity
The central theme is Northern Identity, which may be approached through science, art, cultural history, or a combination of these disciplines.
The concept of northern identity can be explored from various perspectives—both concrete and abstract. Topics may include local stories, history, nature, spaces and places, community, traditions, lifestyle, or contemporary phenomena.
Sources of inspiration may also include personal experiences, memories related to places, identity, cultural uniqueness, or visions for the region’s future.
The use of archival material is allowed, provided the proposer holds the necessary usage rights.
We are looking for original and inspiring audiovisual proposals that reveal what makes local phenomena and communities distinctive.
Applicants may submit one or more proposals, each accompanied by an individual budget.
The total funding available is €20,000 (excluding VAT).
The Oulu Museum and Science Centre reserves the right to accept none or only part of the submitted proposals.
Technical Requirements
Works should be short—no more than a few minutes—and capable of continuous looping.
They may include multiple segments or variations that can change during projection.
Content must be in 2D format.
If desired, works may include soundscapes or narration from a guide welcoming visitors and introducing the video.
Submission of Proposals
Proposals can be submitted between 30 October and 30 November 2025 through the online form available on the Oulu Museum and Science Centre’s website, in Finnish or English.
