Novi Sad Becomes the Centre of Visual Art This Week
26/09/2023

The largest exhibition of the most famous names in Serbian visual art, works by young artists, the best of the world’s naïve, the first exhibition on industrial heritage and the largest interactive installation in Serbia – as many as six unusual and innovative exhibitions await us in Novi Sad the following week, as part of the sixth Kaleidoscope of Culture.

Three Large Art Installations

Sava Šumanović, Milan Konjović, Milenko Šerban, Zora Petrović, Milena Pavlović Barili, Olja Ivanjicki, Mića Popović, Vladimir Veličković, Marina Abramović, Katalin Ladik, Raša Todosijević, are just some of the names whose works will be found in the exhibition ‘On the Path of Serbian Art 1923 – 2023: From Konjović to Marina Abramović’ at the BelArt Gallery. According to the concept of the author, art critic Sava Stepanov, the exhibition will for the first time include so many works of the greatest Serbian artists in one place. It is conceived as an overview of the most significant events in Serbian modern art during the past hundred years.

The exhibition will be opened on Saturday, 30 September, when visitors will have the opportunity to see two more interesting exhibitions, so far not seen in Serbia.

The first exhibition about an industrial heritage ‘Spirit of the Place – A Century of the District’ and the largest interactive sculpture in Serbia ‘Heart’, which were supposed to be presented to the audience last weekend, were moved to next weekend.

While the ‘Spirit of the Place – A Century of the District’, a multimedia and permanent exhibition divided into six phases will show the turbulent hundred-year history of that area, the sculpture ‘Heart’, authored by Milijana Komad, PhD, will be the first thermal interactive sculpture in the world and the largest in Serbia, with its five metres high and three metres wide and therefore a new and unique artistic experience that activates all visitors.

Retrospective of the European Capital of Culture

On the following day, 26 September, the exhibition of photographer Vladimir Veličković will be opened in the District. Through more than 300 works, he will present a retrospective of Novi Sad as the holder of the title of European Capital of Culture, from the preparation to the implementation of the project, i.e. the last six years.

Works of the Young Painter and the Best of the Serbian Naïve in the Cultural Stations

While the Svilara Cultural Station will, on Friday, 29 September, present the exhibition of Serbian and Chinese artists ‘The Best of the World’s Naïve’, the Bukovac Cultural Station will be the place to present one of the most significant young Serbian painters, Aleksandar Bajunović.

The exhibition ‘The Best of the World’s Naïve’ brings the works of artists Jan Husarik, Rozalija Markov, Zuzana Chalupová and Martin Jonas, along with works by Chinese artists. During seven days, visitors will have the opportunity to see seven monumental works by the artist Aleksandar Bajunović, which will change every day. In this manner, the audience will be able to get acquainted in detail with one magnificent work of art every day, which will be accompanied by an interesting sound installation evoking the atmosphere of the exhibited painting.

Admission to all programmes of the Kaleidoscope of Culture is free of charge. Partner of the Kaleidoscope of Culture is Erste Bank.
