The open-air classical music concert Korzo brought together a large audience last night, demonstrating that interest in high-quality cultural programmes does not depend on location, but rather on their accessibility to citizens. After seven years of being held in the city centre as a renowned event showcasing top-class classical music and attracting thousands of visitors, this year’s edition introduced a new dimension by meeting audiences in a part of the city that had not previously hosted a programme of this kind.
Despite the high temperatures on the first day of summer, audiences filled Bate Brkića Street, transforming Novo Naselje into a large open-air concert venue for the very first time. The event confirmed that classical music can attract a broad and diverse audience, while also reaffirming the value of the cultural decentralisation concept developed in Novi Sad during its European Capital of Culture project.
Works by Beethoven, performed by the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra alongside three outstanding soloists – violinist Teofil Milenković, cellist Irena Josifoska and pianist Aleksandar Đermanović – under the baton of conductor Premil Petrović, demonstrated that Korzo, one of the legacies of the European Capital of Culture, is both an artistic and production endeavour with strong potential for further development.
