The city of České Budějovice, which will hold the title of European Capital of Culture in 2028, has announced an open call for cultural and artistic projects that will become part of the programme of this prestigious initiative.
The “(Perma)cultural Open Call 2026” is intended for organisations from the Czech Republic, the European Union and around the world that wish to contribute to the European Capital of Culture programme. The aim of the call is to involve new partners and projects that bring innovative approaches, engage wider audiences and respond to contemporary European challenges, while remaining strongly connected to the local context.
Selected projects should be implemented during 2028 in the city of České Budějovice or in the South Bohemian Region, while encouraging regional, national and international cooperation. The call is based on the concept of “(Perma)culture”, which promotes sustainable and responsible models of cultural production – caring for people, places and the future, as well as ensuring a long-term social impact.
The call is open to a wide range of artistic disciplines, including contemporary visual art, architecture, design, photography, contemporary music, as well as audiovisual, multimedia and digital arts. Special attention will be given to participatory projects, interdisciplinary approaches and innovative artistic formats.
Applications are open to legal entities, while individuals may participate as members of project teams. Projects can be submitted in two funding categories – small and large projects – with financial support of up to CZK 4,000,000 depending on the scale of the project.
Applications should be submitted electronically by sending the project documentation to opencall@budejovice2028.cz, including a detailed project description, a letter of intent confirming cooperation with partners and the organisation’s basic documentation.
