Cécile Da Costa and Ti Nguyen will stay in Novi Sad within the ‘Plants AiR’ artist-in-residence programme of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, with the support of the Student Cultural Centre of Novi Sad from 9 until 23 September. Both artists work in the field of contemporary dance, and the ‘Sounding Bodies’ project emerged from their cooperation. During the stay in Novi Sad, they will hold the workshops of theatre skills of the same name in the Egység Cultural Station from 10 until 16 September.
The ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation and Student Cultural Centre of Novi Sad invite all who are interested to join workshops and find out how the voice can enrich physical movement and vice versa. Participants will have the opportunity to create choreographies and vocal material through an individual and personal research, capturing videos of inspiring movements from their everyday life surroundings.

Sounding bodies aims to create space and opportunity for the development of an individual physical tongue capable of complex and subtle expression. The focus will be on individualities, listening and following the creative impulse of the moment and choose how to use it at its best potential.
‘Sounding bodies’ welcomes a wide public, professional and non-professional performing artists, actors, dancers, singers, movers… who are interested in voice and movement as means of expression.
Cécile Da Costa (France/Czech Republic) is an actress, dancer and pedagogue. In her work, she is searching for voices that can move the body and bodies which can move the voice. She currently works in Prague, as a dancer, actress and singer in the ‘Spitfire’ Company. She runs workshops of physical theatre across Europe and teaches in the ‘Cirqueon’, centre for new circus skills in Prague. Cécile was awarded best dancer 2018 by the Czech dance platform with her solo ‘The Narrator’ and nominated for the Total Physical Theatre Awards at the ‘Fringe’ Festival 2017. This piece is a crossover performance where body and voice oscillate between fight and fragility.
Ti Nguyen (France/Vietnam) is an actress, dancer and pedagogue as well. Lately, she has been developing the ‘Layers’ project, a personal research on different processes of creation and interpretation of different choreographic material using the video recordings for capturing everyday reality. Since 2011, she has been collaborating as a researcher and performer in the ‘Farm in the Cave’ International Theatre Studio, physical theatre company based in Prague. She also works with performing artists from physical and contemporary theatre, dance and circus as a pedagogue and choreographer.
The residence of contemporary dance is implemented within the ‘Tany Platz’ Festival of Contemporary Dance.
