Sonja Jankov – the First Artist from Novi Sad in the Residential Project
30/05/2017

Mixed panel of representatives of the projects ‘Novi Sad 2021’ and ‘Wrocław 2016’ made a decision today to send Sonja Jankov, Novi Sad artists and curator, to residential project in Wrocław.

Sonja will spend the four-week residence in Wrocław, European Capital of Culture in 2016. She will represent cultural-art scene of Novi Sad and ‘Novi Sad 2021’ project, and work together with local artists. Her work will be focused on artistic research of a Wrocław quarter, famous for its developed cultural and activist scene. The programme of the visit will be implemented from 14 June until 12 July within the residential programme Plants A.i.R. – Novi Sad 2021, and in cooperation with AiR Wro – Wrocław 2016. Organisers of the residence will bear all traveling costs and costs of realisation of the programme in Wrocław.

Sonja Jankov (1985) is an independent artist and curator. She passed the state exam for a curator in 2015. In her practical work she uses art mediums (in-situ and/or site-specific installations, photographs, sketches) as well as theoretical writing to show research results. She is an author of the following exhibitions and projects: GIF and Cities, Post-Archive of Contemporary Art, SPENS and Socialist Sports Halls Today, GIF and Public Urban Spaces. She exhibited at the 17th Biennial of Young Artists in Milan (2015), she is part of the Future Architecture Platform project, and an author of numerous texts for exhibition catalogues, academic papers and reviews, as well as art critiques. She lives and works in Novi Sad.

The Novi Sad 2021 Foundation is thankful to all artists who applied to the open call, and invites them to pay attention to new calls for residential programmes that will be launched soon.

We would like to remind that Plants A.i.R. programme is one of the strategic measures of the Foundation focused on internationalisation of the cultural scene. This is the programme that should raise capacities of local artists through exchange of knowledge and experience with colleagues from more than 20 countries of Europe and world. The basic idea of the programme is to enable cultural exchange through cooperation with European independent organisations, i.e. to give our artists opportunity to reside in other cities and work with colleagues in these cities on joint projects, as well as to bring foreign artists to Novi Sad. Moreover, the exchange is the beginning of the Plants A.i.R. programme that the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation plans to continuously implement until 2021.
