Presentation of Novi Sad in Vienna
23/03/2018

On Thursday 22 march, the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, in cooperation with the Central Library of Vienna, organised literary evening with the aim of promoting the project, stressing visibility of Novi Sad as a European Capital of Culture and internationalisation of our artists.

The evening dedicated to literature was the reason to gather representatives of European Capitals of Culture from the Danube Region: Varna 2020, Timișoara 2021, and Novi Sad 2021.

Gyula Ribar opened the gathering on behalf of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation. The topic of his presentation was ‘Novi Sad in Europe – Bridges of Multilingualism’. All these cities have the rich and diverse history of culture, which is, among other things, characterised by multilingualism and multiethnicity. The gathering was attended by Mr Pero Janković, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia in Austria.

The four capitals of the Danube Region presented four characteristic and well-known authors, who are in a way connected with these cities: either through their work, or their personal stories. Novi Sad was represented by Oto Horvat.

Literary evening was part of the activities within the project ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’, which was declared a project of national importance by the Government of the Republic of Serbia (05, no: 69-12771/2016).
