The 8th World Biennial of Student Poster in Svilara on Wednesday
20/02/2019

The gala opening of the 8th World Biennial of Student Poster in the Svilara Cultural Station will take place on Wednesday, 20 February at 7 p.m. The biennial is the part of the ‘International Exhibition of Student Posters and Photographs’ project where the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad is the lead partner. The project is part of the Bid-Book that brought the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation this prestigious title.

The exhibition includes 100 posters and 2200 submitted works from almost every continent, which is respectable number for this type of manifestation, even when it comes to a professional biennial.

The first World Biennial of Student Poster was held in 2004, with the aim to present the best students’ achievements from official educational programmes of similar and related institutions of higher education across the world using the comparative method, as well as to promote the profession of graphic design in time when the visual message, as the most efficient way of communication, has the most important role and is recognisable in environments where language, cultural and civilization barriers are often insurmountable.

Only exceptional artists can make a real success when it comes to the creation of posters. This is the art of the moment, street art that communicates with mass audience – the passers-by. The law of the moment makes the imperative to be designed as simple as possible, with the minimization of text and visual symbols with clear message in every language. The good poster begins its life when it outlives its primary, communicational purpose and moves to galleries and collections, exhibitions and biennials where it presents the culture of environment in which it has been created.

The exhibition lasts until 4 March, and is implemented by the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad with the support of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.
