07/03/2019

The international project ‘2020 Troubadours’ is a project of Creative Europe ‘On the Genre of World Music and History of Europe’ implemented by four cultural organisations from Belgium (Via Lactea), France (Flonflons), Serbia (Etnofest) and Hungary (Mediawave), in cooperation with the two associated organisations: The ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ and Centre for Cultural Management from the Ukrainian city of Lviv.

The main objective of the project is to improve transnational mobility of the ‘world music’ performers, to promote ‘world music’ as a specific music poly-genre that contributes to the development of intercultural dialogue, to initiate dialogue between artists and audience about identity crisis in Europe, and to point to a historical connection between contemporary travelling artists and medieval troubadours.

Project activities will include work of more than 20 artists, who will get the opportunity to cooperate and travel around Europe through workshops and concert activities, and to become skilled for music solo performance through specially prepared mentoring programme.

Project activities that will draw special attention are organised train trips called ‘Trouba Train Trips’, during which the music caravan will visit several European cities, opening a direct dialogue between artists and audience regarding the identity crisis that Europe encounters these days.

The ‘2020 Troubadours’ project aims to demonstrate the possibilities of European music in the world in order to gather people, foster cultural dialogue and show that European cultural cooperation is a good way for combat discrimination and treat post-war trauma.
