‘Storytelling – Tell me the story, I want to know’ project started in Beočin on 5 November. The project is implemented by the Centre for Culture, Sport and Tourism of the municipality of Beočin, within the Audience in Focus programme supported by the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.
The project is based on specific workshops (so-called storytelling method that includes the use of various visual and sound elements in order to revive characters and scenes from stories). The general aim is the popularisation of reading among children and intention to raise the awareness of books and reading as the precious tools for preservation and development of children’s mental health.
Workshops are held in the places familiar to children, in their immediate surroundings such as libraries, kindergartens and nearby schools. The workshops are intended for children 3-7 and 7-10 years of age. 9 workshops (in Beočin, Rakovac, Lug, Susek, Čerević and Banoštor) have been already held with children 3-7 years of age.
The great interest was shown and children easily overcame the language barrier (workshop in Lug, where mother tongue of children is Slovakian). Work on the stories from Serbian history and historical events that took place in the area where children live and grow up, is envisaged for older and middle-aged children. Implementation of project activities lasts until June 2019.
