From now on, Novi Sad becomes a centre of world design, and in addition to this, a workshop for children, a youth-engaged theatre, the first Serbian jazz festival, a cleaning action of Bećarac and Bici oasis with volunteers, and other content are being organised within the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’.
This year, visual art is presented  two within two exhibitions during the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ that will be opened today, 17 September – the ‘Innovative Finnish Design’ exhibition in the Egység Cultural Station at 1 p.m., and the ‘Swiss Style Now’ exhibition in the Railway Station Hall at 8:21p.m. (20:21).
Who are the main characters in the popular Finish books and comics about the Moomin family? This will be revealed in the Moomin workshop that will be held in the Egység Cultural Station on Saturday at 11 a.m. The youngest citizens will discover the unusual world of the Moomin valley through drawing techniques. Tove Jansson, one of the most read and translated Finnish authors for children and adults and the author of the series of books and comics about the Moomin family, will be presented at the literary evening that will be held at the same place at 7 p.m.
 The performance within the project is scheduled for 22 September at 12 p.m. and 8 p.m., and for 23 and 24 September at 12 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. in the Railway Station Hall.

Youth activism in a theatre

The Youth Engaged Theatre Festival, which emerged from the ‘EYE – Net’ project, will be held at the end of the week. In addition to theatres from Novi Sad, we will host theatres from Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia and Italy on 20 and 21 September.
All plays will be performed in several local schools, as well as at the plateau of the Svilara Cultural Station.

Art and joint actions draw attention to ecology

On the occasion of the World Cleanup Day, 21 September, the cleaning action of Bećarac and the Bici oasis on the Sunny Quay will be organised from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
It is a joint action of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’, OPENS 2019, Eko Kurir, Novi Sad Voluntary Service, JCI Novi Sad, Aktiv NS in order to clean very frequent but dirty microlocations.
 The exhibition is based on the idea of the Universal Sea, interdisciplinary artistic and innovative project that fights water pollution. The exhibition is part of the Danube Dialogues 2019 Festival of contemporary art. Works by artists from ten countries from the Danube region will be presented at the exhibition.

First festival of Serbian jazz in Svilara   

The fourth week of the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ brings the first Festival of Serbian jazz that will be held in the Svilara Cultural Station on 20 and 21 September. The festival is implemented by NGO ‘Kovači Kulture’. This will be the opportunity to promote local musicians and authors, on one hand, and a new event for all fans and lovers of high quality jazz sound, on the other.
Both days, Friday and Saturday, the programme will begin at 9 p.m., and the entrance is free.
‘The New Now Trio’– Milena Jančurić (flute), Vladimir Samardžić (bass) and Saša Ignjatović (percussion) will perform the first night. In addition to this band, the ‘MoveMental Band’ by Tibor Buraji will also perform the same night. The second night is reserved for the ‘Out Of Form’ by Bogdan Đurđević who performed with Vasil Hadžimanov, Lena Kovačević, Zemlja Gruva, etc. The jazz fusion quintet by Vladimir Tubić will perform at the end of the festival.

The ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ is the programme arch of the ‘Nov Sad 2021 – European
Capital of Culture’ project, which turns Novi Sad into the ‘city of scene’ at more than 80 locations from 24 to 30 August. Part of the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ are Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest, Piano City, Festival of Chamber Music, etc.
It connects spaces and programmes, as well as the actors themselves: the ‘Kaleidoscope’ presents a unique image of the diversity of Novi Sad through multiple arts, with its cultural institutions, non-institutional scene, artists and citizens themselves. With more than 400 programmes, everyone will have a chance to design their own kaleidoscope of culture.
