Academicians support Novi Sad on the way to become a European Capital of Culture

The annual conference of the Novi Sad branch of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts (SASA) was held in Novi Sad today, and was attended by Mayor of Novi Sad, Mr.Miloš Vučević, President of SASA, Mr.Vladimir Kostić, President of Matica Srpska, Mr. Dragan Stanić and Rector of University of Novi Sad, Mr.Dušan Nikolić.

On that occasion, the importance of the coordinated functioning of all institutions significant for the development of the city and achieving common goals was emphasized. Among other things, they discussed the candidacy of Novi Sad for the European Capital of Culture 2021. The President of SASA, Mr.Vladimir Kostić reminded that SASA was one of the first institutions that supported the candidacy of Novi Sad for the European Capital of Culture and made available its capacities for successful implementation of the project.

Announcing a series of activities that will mark a big anniversary – 175 years of SASA President Kostić confirmed that Novi Sad will be the main hub of the anniversary, where, among other things, the ceremonial academy will be held and dedicated to the founders of the SASA – Jovan Sterija Popović and Atanasije Nikolić.
