Recognising the importance of improvement of the accessibility of information, Rumenka Cultural Centre, in cooperation with ‘Veternik’ Centre for disabled children and young people, designed the accessible website, so that everyone have the possibility to actively participate in social events in the field of culture. Presentation was held in the Rumenka Cultural Centre. The creation of this type of website was implemented within the public call of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation.
After the presentation, the ‘Icons on Silk’ exhibition (DAR creative workshop), consisted of children and young people with developmental difficulties and people with disabilities of the ‘Love, Faith and Hope’ association of citizens was opened, as well as the exhibition of works of children and young people of the Rumenka Cultural Centre. On this occasion, the ‘Music Connects Us’ concert was held within the 9th ‘Hearts in Harmony’ Festival.
Within the ‘Accessibility’ public call, launched by the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, 6 projects of cultural institutions, with the focus on the ‘accessibility’, were supported with the total amount of RSD 4,373,500.
During 2019, the Foundation will continue with programmes for improvement of accessibility. Trainings for cultural managers will be organised within the ‘Accessible Art’ project. Research on cultural habits of people with disabilities will be implemented, as well as more exhibitions and workshops within the Second Europe platform, and a public call for creation of accessible websites of cultural institutions.
One of the biggest problems that deaf and hard of hearing people face with every day in their community are communication obstacles. Not having the possibility of informing, acquiring knowledge and skills and actively participate, lead towards their marginalisation, social exclusion, thus decreasing the quality of life.
The ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation enables all people to have equal possibility to be informed, stressing that the possibility is not a privilege, but the right.
