The mayor of Timisoara, Mr. Nicolae Robu, visited Novi Sad yesterday, and met among others, with the Mayor of Novi Sad, Mr. Miloš Vučević, and the President of the Organizing Committee of Novi Sad 2021, Mr. Nemanja Milenković.

– It is my pleasure to host the mayor of Timisoara and to continue the discussions on the improvement of cooperation between the two twin cities. At the meeting, we talked about several important topics, such as the economy, economic cooperation, attracting investments and other issues. A lot of attention was paid to the candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2021. Namely, Novi Sad and Timisoara are struggling to obtain this prestigious title, and we as twin cities, give the maximum support to each other in this endeavor. Even though we have been formally twinned for only 11 years, links between our two nations have lasted for many centuries. We have a lot of similarities with each other, in addition to about the same size of the two cities, we have recorded inflow of investments related to the automotive industry, a significant development of the IT sector as well as the launch of business incubators and support for start-up companies – said Mayor Miloš Vučević.

The mayor of Timisoara, Nicolae Robu, said he is happy to be in the city which is close to Timisoara in multiple sectors with which it has a common history, as well as a good basis for future relations.
– I had a very pleasant conversation with the Mayor of Novi Sad related to the events in both cities, joint future projects, as well as the possibility of cooperation on more plans in the culture and economy. In the last few years Timisoara positioned itself as one of the most dynamic cities in Romania and the city with the largest number of investments. Our town and Novi Sad are in the competition for the European Capital of Culture and we cooperate and support in this process. We are optimistic and we wish good luck to both cities, but we are aware that we have a great challenge – said the mayor of Timisoara and expressed great satisfaction with the visit to the company, which began to work in Romania and developed in several cities in the world.

President of the Organizing Committee of Novi Sad in 2021, Nemanja Milenković, said that the teams for the candidacy of Novi Sad and Timisoara for the European Capital of Culture have already cooperated closely on five joint projects and hopes that this cooperation will continue if both cities carry the title – through victory of Timisoara and Novi Sad, Europe would get not only two new capitals of culture, but also a unique European region of culture, connected not only by historical ties, economic cooperation, but also concrete projects which are presented in both applications.
