Márta Gyarmati, documentation curator of the ‘Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski’, will stay in ‘MODEM’ Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts in Debrecen from 10 until 23 September in 2018 within the ‘Out of the Comfort Zone’ project for co-financing mobility of cultural managers and cultural and artistic workers in 2018, implemented by the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation.
Márta Gyarmati graduated from the Department of Art History of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade. As a curator of Fine Arts Collection, she has been working on the processing of expert documentation about works of art, coordination of business on restauration and equipping artistic and archive material, as well as activities related to setting materials.
She is the author of exhibitions ‘Fine Art Collection: From Pin to Canvas’ (2007), ‘Pavle Beljanski – Friend of Artist: Jefto Perić’ (2012) and ‘Ečka – The Colony of New Ideas’ (2013). She worked as a curator on projects ‘Risto Stijović, Milan Konjović: The Fourth Decade’, ‘Danica Jovanović: Madly in Love with Painting’, ‘Movement in Sculpture / Sculpture in Move’, ‘Memory of Ljubica-Cuca-Sokić’ and many others.
MODEM – Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts is cultural institution that deals with study and presentation of Hungarian and international art from the 20th century. She safekeeps the Antal-Lusztig Collection, one of the most important private artistic collections of 4500 works of modern and contemporary art of Hungary, which she presents at her exhibition. That is why it is related to Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski, whose work is based on cultivating and presentation of Collection of Pavle Beljanski. Having in mind active programme and pedagogue work of MODEM, professional training of curators of Memorial Collection is invaluable in bringing museums closer to current trends in the field of designing exhibitions and accompanying programmes of exhibitions, contemporary methods of working with audience in accordance with priorities of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ project, as well as improving cooperation of Memorial Collection with foreign partners and opens the possibility to exchange exhibitions with the topic of creative work from the same period that would enrich the European Capital of Culture programme.
The aims of the ‘Out of the Comfort Zone’ project within which this exchange has been organised, are improving mobility, international cultural cooperation and building institutional and administrative capacities in cultural institutions on the territory of the city of Novi Sad and municipalities of Sremski Karlovci, Beočin and Irig.
This is the first call organised in Novi Sad that promotes mobility of cultural workers and it is the part of a broader strategy of internationalisation of cultural scene carried out by the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation.
Within the ‘Out of the Comfort Zone’ project, the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation supported 13 managers working in public cultural institutions and organisations by providing funds for projects of professional trainings abroad.
