The ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation: Cultural Ambassador of Novi Sad at the Ulm Festival
09/07/2018

Every second year, the German city of Ulm hosts a unique cultural-tourist event which gathers representatives of countries of the Danube region. International Danube Festival will be held from 6 until 15 July this year, with the idea of presenting cultural diversity, music, dance forms, authenticity and identity of 10 countries and cities on the Danube banks. The ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation will represent the city of Novi Sad in an interesting concept from 6 until 9 July.

Visitors of the International Danube Festival will be able to get to know Novi Sad and cultural heritage through three thematic topics: common cultural-historical heritage, the story about Mileva and Albert Einstein and presentation of the concept and values of the European Capital of Culture.

We will reveal common cultural-historical heritage to visitors of the event by allowing them to peek through the windows of the ‘Danube Swabians Museum’ in Sremski Karlovci. The virtual 360-degree perspective tour will display the rural household from the second half of the 18th century. The house model and objects from this period will be exhibited on the spot. We will represent ‘Fenster’, the only magazine in German language in Serbia.

Ulm and Novi Sad have one more thing in common – both cities can be proud of the connection to famous scientist Albert Einstein and Mileva Marić Einstein. Albert, a native of Ulm and Mileva, a native of Novi Sad are in the focus of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation as well. Leading up to 2021, when Novi Sad will become the European Capital of Culture, the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation is carefully preparing the ‘Mileva and Albert’ project: unknown material of the private life of the most important scientist is currently being collected. Celebrating 100 years of the Nobel Prize Award will be followed up by the film premiere about this couple and opening of the Mileva and Albert Museum in Novi Sad in 2021.

With the help of tandem bicycle and VR glasses, festival visitors will have a chance to ‘take a ride’ on the streets of the old part of the city centre. What will be interesting to the visitors of the Ulm Festival is that, besides rich programme, we prepare authentic gastronomic postcard of Novi Sad, including wine and craft beer, and we spice up the story with the unique Kugelhopf from Karlovci and Bermet wine, while using the opportunity to represent activities, programme concept of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ project as well, and invite our guests from the Danube Festival to visit our city.
