Novi Sad Joins the Global Ecological Action within the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’
19/09/2019

On the occasion of the World Cleanup Day, Novi Sad joins the global movement within the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ showing that culture and communion are definitely part of our surroundings.

On Saturday, 21 September, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. the action of cleaning up Bećarac will begin at the Bici oasis behind the Rectorate Building. This is the space that was arranged last year by the activists of the ‘Eko Kurir’ association with the support of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 European – Capital of Culture’ and the ‘New Places – Microgranting’.
In addition to the ‘Novi Sad 2021 European – Capital of Culture’ and the ‘Eko Kurir’ association, the Novi Sad Voluntary Service, OPENS 2019, JCI Novi Sad and Aktiv NS also joined the action. They invite all the citizens of Novi Sad, who are willing to help, to join the action.
‘The idea is to join forces to clean up frequent micro-locations, with the aim of drawing the public attention that we all need to care more and protect the environment in which we live. In this way, new places live and bring together different people and ideas. There is no hidden goal, we all make the environment and we can all influence it to be clean and healthy. We provided refreshments during the work, so you just have to bring good energy and work gloves’, said Vojislav Prkosovački on behalf of the Novi Sad Voluntary Service.
You can find more information about the action on facebook event.

The World Cleanup Day is one of the biggest civilian movements that unite 157 countries around the world with the common aim that overcomes all national, religious and cultural differences.
The idea and the first action appeared in 2008 in Estonia, and 11 years later it became the global movement.

The ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ is the programme arch of the ‘Nov Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ project, which turns Novi Sad into the ‘city of scene’ at more than 80 locations from 24 to 30 August. Part of the ‘Kaleidoscope of Culture’ are Street Musicians Festival – Gradić Fest, Piano City, Festival of Chamber Music, etc.

It connects spaces and programmes, as well as the actors themselves: the ‘Kaleidoscope’ presents a unique image of the diversity of Novi Sad through multiple arts, with its cultural institutions, non-institutional scene, artists and citizens themselves. With more than 400 programmes, everyone will have a chance to design their own kaleidoscope of culture.
