Regional heritage – sustainable way, is the topic of international conference held in the Assembly of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina on 27 April 2018.

The international expert conference, organised by the Institute of European Regions (IRE), will feature experts from across Europe, as well as: István Pásztor, President of the Assembly of Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Dragana Milošević, Provincial Secretary for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, Miloš Vučević, Mayor of Novi Sad, and Nemanja Milenković, CEO of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.

The CEO of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation shared vision and goals, i.e. planned activities within the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ project, in terms of raising awareness and efforts to preserve cultural heritage that exceeds national frame, initiates processes and connects people, spaces and project ideas.

The speakers at the conference are Prof Dr Franz Schausberger, President of the IRE and member of the Committee of the Regions and special advisor of the European Commission, Nikolaus Lutterotti, Ambassador of the Republic of Austria in Serbia, Sem Fabrizi, Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Giovanni Caracciolo di Vietri, Secretary General of the Central European Initiative (CEI) from Italy. The European Affairs Fund of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina is partner in the project.

The conference presented examples of good practice in protection of cultural heritage of European regions, especially in countries of Central, East and South-East Europe. Participants of the conference stressed the importance of protection, maintenance and preservation of cultural heritage in relation to strengthening tourism in cities and rural areas, and showed how cultural heritage can be the basis of the European vision for prosperity. In addition to this, innovative financial mechanisms for regional and local activities for protection of cultural heritage were also discussed. As the result, conference will provide guidelines for the countries of the West Balkans in the domain of cultural heritage.
