S.P.A.C.E. Project

The S.P.A.C.E. project uses specific methodology of citizens’ participation in expressing opinions about important social topics in European context, brings the debate between citizens to the street in order to facilitate the process of citizens involvement in bringing democratic decisions.

The main objectives of the S.P.A.C.E. project are: to create space for expressing opinions, initiate the debate on the future of Europe; to raise capacities of local authorities and organisations of civil society; create the possibility to hear the voice of the citizens on a European level.

The project is implemented in 10 countries: Italy, Estonia, Romania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Slovenia, Croatia, France and Serbia with the support of the Europe for Citizens.

During the last two years, 35 street debates were held in several cities in Europe: Tiggiano and Lecce in Italy, Trebnje in Slovenia, Chios in Greece, Cluj and Sânpaul in Romania, Tallinn in Estonia, Vienna in Austria, Pula and Poreč in Croatia, Orléans and Marseille in France, as well as in Novi Sad, having in mind that Serbia is in the negotiation process for the membership in the European Union.

Opinions of Europeans about issues raised during the street debates were put into the ‘White book for the future of Europe‘ that was sent to European Commission.
