The goal of the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme platform, which is part of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ project, is to promote Novi Sad as a symbol of peace, tolerance, community and regional cooperation through culture and art.
Within this platform, Novi Sad will get the monument of peace entitled ‘One Day…’, which was designed by Yoko Ono, a world famous multimedia artist and peace activist. This is one of the key programmes within the ‘Fortress of Peace’ platform, which is being implemented in cooperation with the EXIT Foundation, and co-financed by the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation and NIS Company, on the occasion of marking the 100th anniversary of ending World War I. The monument that will be revealed on 28 June, will be a new cultural and tourist attraction of the city, and it will contribute to promotion of Novi Sad at the international scene.
After the ‘Kaleidoscope’, ‘Doček’ and ‘Future of Europe’, the fourth platform that begins on 7 June and lasts until 7 July, will include more than 20 events (theatre plays, concerts, films, exhibitions of local and regional artists) that send notes of peace both in direct and indirect way.
‘We are preparing the audience for 2021 – the title year, by launching these four platforms, i.e., acquainting audience to the programme concept with which we will present our project to Europe and world. Furthermore, we raise our capacities, which include institutions of culture, educational institutions, non-institutional scene, cultural and creative industries. The ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation is the bridge that will connect all those stakeholders within platforms by which Novi Sad will present itself as the prestigious city’, said Nemanja Milenković, CEO of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, at today’s conference held on the occasion of launching the ‘Fortress of Peace’ platform.
Ivan Petrović, president of the Steering Committee of the EXIT Foundation, added: ’Building peace is something that EXIT does from its beginning, and that is one of our key goals. We cannot expect prosperity without peace. We don’t talk about war, we celebrate peace’.
