‘Singing Bridges’ is the name of the project that is being implemented by the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad in cooperation with and with the help of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation. Within the project, two choir performances of internationally famous performers of spiritual music will be organised on Sunday, 3 June and Monday, 4 June.

Citizens of Novi Sad will get the chance to see the performance of the Choir and the Chamber Orchestra of the ‘Sofia’ Church from Stockholm (Sweden) on 3 June at 8 p.m. while ‘Cappella Romana’ professional vocal ensemble from Portland (USA) will perform on 4 June at the same time.

Works of Mozart, Mokranjac, Frederik Sixten, Wilhelm Stenhammar, Ola Gjeilo, Lars-Erik Larsson, Lisa Simikić and others will be part of the repertoire of the Choir and Chamber orchestra of the ‘Sofia’ Church.

The Choir and the Chamber orchestra of the ‘Sofia’ Church have performed some of the most famous spiritual works from the history of music such as Bach’s Missa in h-moll and St John and St Matthew Passion, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Requiem, Gabriel Fauré, Giuseppe Verdi and many others.

The ‘Capella Romana’ vocal ensemble from Portland will present the repertoire that includes medieval Byzantine church chorus before the year of 1204 to Novi Sad citizens on 4 June.

Capella Romana is a professional vocal ensemble that performs early and contemporary spiritual music according to the Eatern and Western Christianity. The ensemble is well-known for its performance and recordings of medieval Byzantine chant (Eastern variant of Gregorian chant), Greek and Russian spiritual songs, as well as interpretations of other types of spiritual music that expresses history and tradition of the unique and common Christian heritage.

‘Singing Bridges’ is one of the projects of the Academy of Arts from the bid-book which brought the title of European Capital of Culture for 2021 to the City of Novi Sad.

‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture) is looking forward to this event of music and spirituality, as well as the cooperation that has begun with the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad and invites Novi Sad citizens to visit announced concerts in the Synagogue.
