You will have a chance to take a glimpse at the authentic Rabbit Museum tomorrow, on 27 July from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. This is the second walk through this interesting collection in Petrovaradin (Koste Nađa Street no. 30), created by Nikola Džafo, artist and cultural worker. The entrance is free.
The Walks through the Rabbit Museum are part of the ‘Heritage Walks’ project, created with the aim to let citizens of Novi Sad tell a bit different stories about cultural heritage from their perspective, experience and personal archives. The project is implemented within the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ project and preparation of Novi Sad for the title year.
The collection consists of more than 2,000 pieces. However, Željko Grulović from ‘Šok Zadruga’ said that the number is far bigger.
‘There are not only pieces such as toys, books, different objects that symbolise rabbits, but there are a lot of pieces that were made in workshop, that is, the Džafo atelier, as well as works of other artists who used the rabbit as a symbol. Therefore, there is more than one reason to visit the museum’, said Grulović during the first walk, which was held last Saturday, on 20 July.
The Walks through the Rabbit Museum will be organised again on 3 August, at the same time.
Nikola Džafo has been working on the Rabbit Museum project for more than two decades, and the Museum became public for the first time on 2 September 2006, at the 12th Biennial of Art in Pančevo. The first retrospective was presented in the Museum of Contemporary Art of Vojvodina in 2011.
The collection itself covers the topics of art, development of ecological awareness, social engagement, which points out all flaws and illnesses of a society.
