The Gallery of Matica Srpska in cooperation with the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation, celebrates anniversary – 60 Years of the Gallery of Matica Srpska in the building at the Gallery Square.

The programme organised in front of the Gallery on Friday, 1 June 2018, from 6:30 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. will point out the Gallery Square, as an important cultural point of the city and the importance of the Gallery of Matica Srpska that was opened for public on 1 June 1958. On this day, the first exhibition within the project aimed at spatial improvement of the park and creating new public-artistic space that would be used for sculptures of local and foreign artists will be shown.

The programme starts with the Long Story About Four Friends children’s opera performance at 6:30 p.m., followed by the choir ‘Zvončići’ performance. After that, three exhibitions will be opened: Artistic Time Machine, the exhibition of children’s work from the ‘Radosno Detinjstvo’ preschool institution, From Copy to Original, the exhibition of students from ‘Bogdan Šuput’ Secondary School for Design, as well as New Gallery Square, the exhibition of students from the Department of Architecture and Urbanism.

This year, the sculptures from collections of the Matica Srpska Gallery, Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski and Gallery of Fine Arts Gift Collection of Rajko Mamuzić will be cast in bronze and placed as first sculptures in future Sculptures Park at the Gallery Square. They will be revealed symbolically at 20:21.

Owing to the title of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’, the park and plateau in front of the Gallery Square will get new content in the following few years, and through ‘Sculpture Park’ project, the location will become a new place where people can enjoy culture and spend quality free time.
