Based on the international call, which was launched on 24 May 2017, the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation has selected Jovan Trkulja for the Artistic Director of the project, in accordance with the Bid-Book, where it was defined that this position is to be filled during 2017 in order to select and prepare programme up to and during 2021.

The Artistic Director is one of the key positions that manages artistic sector, formulates the artistic vision of the project, and defines and is responsible for artistic concept.

Jovan Trkulja is a renowned creative director in the region, with over 15 years of experience in cultural and creative industries and a developed network of contacts in cultural-creative sector across Europe. He is one of the most awarded artists in this field. He has am international experience in implementation of projects in contemporary art, design, creation and management of brands, audience development, strategic planning, and development of artistic concept of the project.

Furthermore, Mr Trkulja has shown exceptional knowledge of different forms of digital art, and professionally uses digital tools not only for artistic creation but also for marketing, management in culture, art and in cultural and creative industries in general. Artistic potentials of Jovan Trkulja in all areas of visual expression, as well as his successful application of digital technology through implementation of ideas with various user groups, point to high professional standards and communication skills. Close to the independent scene, from which he originates, as well as to contemporary trends, he is capable of encompassing, as well as summarising, variety of segments of the European Capital of Culture.
