Strengthening the Novi Sad cultural scene through a network of cultural stations, raising its capacities, decentralisation of culture and audience development – these goals initiated a comprehensive ‘Artists. Now!’ campaign within the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ project.
This campaign will provide support to the local artistic scene through programmes, spaces, production capacities, promotion, cooperation with associations and students and calls for local artists. A series of interesting programmes selected and produced by the citizens of Novi Sad for the citizens of Novi Sad, with the participation of the curator of the ‘Novi Sad – European Capital of Culture’ project will show the new face of the capital of culture. The campaign partner is IDEA.
After the Public call for strengthening the local artistic scene, funds were allocated for 42 projects that will be implemented in Novi Sad in the following period. The selected projects present a palette of different fields of art, including performing arts, fine art, applied art, visual art, design and architecture, programmes related to film and audio-visual art, as well as digital art and multimedia.

The non-classical festival of classical music
The fourth non-classical festival of classical music NEO was held from 29 June to 18 July, 2020 in Novi Sad.
This year’s NEO Festival was kind of a tribute to the local music scene, while the programme also marked the jubilee – 250 years since the birth of Ludwig Van Beethoven.
NEO revealed new spaces for culture in Novi Sad through 14 concerts. In addition to authentic programmes in a non-classical environment, the citizens of Novi Sad had the opportunity to visit the new cultural stations Mlin, Bukovac, Rumenka, the future cultural station OPENS, as well as the Svilara and Egység cultural stations.
Although classical music is the core of the NEO festival, the local bands ‘JAL’ and ‘Čičini Čvorci’ were refreshment in the repertoire. The frontmen of these bands are classical musicians, and on this occasion they performed Beethoven’s compositions in ska, i.e. jazz manner. The programme of the festival was adapted to the audience of different affinities and ages, so the youngest citizens of Novi Sad had the opportunity to enjoy the opera for children ‘Pčelica Dana’, as well as the Concert of Young Talents.
As one of the most important festivals of classical music in Novi Sad, NEO gathered more than 60 local musicians this year.
