From 3 until 30 September, we have the opportunity to host two visual artists þórunn Hjartardóttir and Guðbjörg Hjartardóttir who will hold a presentation about SÍM Residential Centre in Reykjavík and Contemporary Visual Art of Iceland while they will also hold ‘Interventions in Space’ workshops together with students from ‘Bogdan Šuput’ Secondary School for Design in Novi Sad. Visual artists are staying in Novi Sad within the ‘Plant AiR’ artist-in-residence programme implemented by the ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation.

þórunn Hjartardóttir graduated at the Academy of Arts in Reykjavík. She is a member of the Association of Fine Arts in Island. She exhibited in country and abroad, inter alia in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Reykjavík. She is a coordinator of the ‘SÍM’ (Association of Icelandic Artists) residence in Reykjavík, Icelandic pavilion in Venice in 2007, project manager at the ‘700.IS Reindeerland’ Festival that is focused on video, sound and experimental film. She works in the field of installations and new media.

Guðbjörg Hjartardóttir Leaman graduated at the Academy of Arts in Reykjavík, she lived in London for years where she finished her post-phD studies at the ‘UCL Slade School of Fine Art’. She is a member of the Association of Fine Arts in Iceland. She exhibited in country and abroad, inter alia in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Reykjavík. She works in the field of painting, installation, performance and new media, with long experience in pedagogical practice. She lives and works in Reykjavík where she was born.

During this residence, Guðbjörg expects to learn about new culture and people as well as the exchange of information and experience, creating relations between Serbia and Iceland, while she will record impressions in her visual-textual diary. Her fellow citizen þórunn says that she will be in search for new expressions of art in Novi Sad – conscious and unconscious impact she will turn into works of art.
