Volunteers Won the October Award of Novi Sad.

This year’s October Award of Novi Sad is dedicated to the values of volunteering, voluntary spirit and selfless engagement of volunteers in six sectors – culture, youth, ecology, health, sports and state of emergency, on the initiative of 40 organisations and institutions from Novi Sad that work with volunteers, among which is the Novi Sad Voluntary Service.

Milan Dudić, the oldest volunteer of the Novi Sad Voluntary Service, received the award on behalf of the volunteers of Novi Sad yesterday at the City Hall in Novi Sad. The award was presented on the initiative of the European Youth Capital Novi Sad, which was joined by institutions, organisations, formal and non-formal groups of Novi Sad, for achievements that the service performs and that will be implemented in the city in the field of local community development, youth, culture, sports, health and social protection, ecology and solidarity and humanitarian work.

‘Volunteering should be performed and practiced every day, we should work in peace and harmony and build the values of solidarity, humanity and tolerance. This is the award for the engagement of volunteers in the implementation of activities in culture, work with youth, ecology, health, sports and work with vulnerable groups, but also for the exceptional commitment and support they provided during the state of emergency and the Covid-19 pandemic’ said Vojislav Prkosovački, coordinator of the Novi Sad Voluntary Service.

In addition to the Novi Sad volunteers, the winners of the October Award are Nebojša Kuzmanović, PhD, director of the Archives of Vojvodina and the Clinic for Infectious Diseases of the Clinical Centre of Vojvodina.

Yesterday in Novi Sad, the November Charter was awarded to His Grace Bishop of Bačka Irinej Bulović, the Medical Faculty of the University of Novi Sad and the City Library.

All citizens interested in volunteering can find more information on the Novi Sad Voluntary Service website, which was founded in 2017 on the initiative of the European Youth Capital OPENS 2019 and ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.

Members of the Novi Sad Voluntary Service have developed cooperation with over 60 organisations and institutions in Novi Sad through 160 activities and active participating in the sectors of youth, culture, sports, health and vulnerable groups as well as ecology. Their engagement achieved over 12 thousand volunteer hours. The volunteer database, aged 15 to 83, numbers over 1,600 people.

The aims and tasks of the Novi Sad Voluntary Service are to promote the positive values of voluntary work in the local community, cooperation with volunteers and organizers of voluntary work, raising the quality of voluntary work and including different age categories.
