Within the ‘Awakening of Fruška Gora’ project, which is implemented by the Provincial Government and ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation with the aim to make Fruška Gora more available, visible and attractive, 15 kilometres of the road (Grebenski Put) was reconstructed. It is a total of 57 kilometres long, and it is planned to complete the remaining part, which is passing through the municipalities of Beočin, Bačka Palanka and Sremska Mitrovica by 2021, when Novi Sad, along with Zone 021 is going to be the European Capital of Culture.

Fruška Gora is rich in natural and cultural goods, and the vicinity of the most important Serbian destinations provides the opportunity for tourist potentials to come true.

The European Capital of Culture intensively prepares programmes for 2021, which will also include the municipalities of Sremski Karlovci, Irig and Beočin, so all lovers of nature and culture will be able to visit cultural contents and commune with nature and cultural and historical heritage in a beautiful, safe and quality way. This is a chance for these municipalities to get closer to Novi Sad, holder of this prestigious title, strongly connect public and private sector, NGOs and religious communities through the ‘4 New Bridges’ slogan for the first time.

Through the awakening of Fruška Gora and reconstruction of this road, numerous domestic and foreign tourists will be able to enjoy in its goods, and the new audience will bring life to our most valuable tangible and intangible heritage.

Within this project, the Mihiz’s house in Irig was recently opened, which is going to be one of the cultural stations in Zone 021 by 2021. It is also planned to launch the ‘Ship Theatre’ for sailing, and to reconstruct and adapt the Homeland Museum in Čerević, which is going to be cultural station like those in Beočin and Sremski Karlovci.
