Fortress of Peace: Shakespeare the Japanese way and Opera in the Open
18/06/2019

The ‘K.Tempest’ theatre play, based on the Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’, will be performed after two years in Novi Sad within the ‘Fortress of Peace’ programme platform of the ‘Novi Sad 2021’.

‘Matsumoto Performing Art Centre’ will visit Serbia for the first time, and they will perform the ‘K.Tempest’ theatre play by Kazuyoshi Kushida in the Novi Sad Theatre on 19 June at 7 p.m.

The play talks about magic, betrayal, revenge and family, and is inspired by the Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’. The premiere in Serbia was in 2017 in Novi Sad, and on that occasion, director Kushida stated that, although Shakespeare’s work seems like a fairy tale, the play depicts a real world: ‘I want to show something invisible, something that is felt in a theatre that brings the magical power of art. I would like the audience to feel my thoughts, and not to tuck them in a small box of logic’, said Kushida.

Tickets are available at the Novi Sad Theatre box office at the price of RSD 1000.

Opera in the Open – Young Talents in the Katolička Porta

The ‘Young Talents’ gala concert that is scheduled for 20 June will show that opera can sound equally spectacular in the open, as well as in gala halls. The concert will be held in the Katolička Porta and it will symbolically begin at 20:21.

The ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ and the ‘Operaria’, the first Festival of Opera in Novi Sad, have the same task – to bring culture, i.e. opera, closer to everyone. Dušan Svilar alongside the Vojvodina Symphony Orchestra and the tenor winners of the International Competition of solo singers ‘Vera Kovač Vitkai’ will perform famous opera arias outside the ceremonial and theatre halls.
