The ‘Good for Life’ International Volunteer Camp is being implemented in Novi Sad from 17 until 29 September. The preservation of cultural heritage of Novi Sad is the reason for the visit of 12 volunteers from all around the world within the volunteer camp in Novi Sad.
Volunteers, together with the local community, will work on adaptation of the playground and park in Podbara, near the Svilara, within the ‘Good for Life’ International Volunteer Programme. In this manner, they will contribute to the improvement of space of the former factory for silk dyeing whose purpose is being changed through the European Capital of Culture project – it becomes the third cultural station of Novi Sad (besides the Egység and Caravan cultural stations).
The ‘Novi Sad 2021’ Foundation recognised the need for new cultural space as the great potential which Podbara and Almaš Neighbourhood have. With this project, the Foundation opens the space for creative expression and activities to the citizens of Podbara and Novi Sad by reconstructing this old factory for silk dyeing. The opening is planned for the end of October.
During the ten-day stay in Novi Sad, young people from France, Turkey, Germany, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Spain and Serbia will work on adaptation of park in Podbara, where the plan was to set up paths and benches, and paint walls in the building and manage existing playground.
During the implementation of the camp, the focus will be on the needs of citizens and creation of preconditions for the formation of urban garden within the park. This camp presents one of the ways to improve and preserve cultural heritage of Novi Sad and create new cultural environment with active participation of citizens in Podbara.
The camp is being implemented by the ‘Environment Engineering Group’ and ‘Almašani’ Associations with the support of the ‘Novi Sad 2021 – European Capital of Culture’ Foundation.
Besides the International Camp, the ‘Silk Road’ mural will be painted on the building in Đorđe Rajković Street, with the aim to increase visibility of Svilara and involve fellow citizens in activities.
